I’ve recently subscribed to your magazine. My May 2018 issue arrived in its plastic bag with a few leaflets inside. The leaflets promptly went to my recycling bin, the plastic envelope to the bin, as it’s currently not recyclable. So imagine my shock to then read the Editor’s Letter discussing the plastic problem and how to be more environmentally conscious! Is there any way you can stop sending the magazines in plastic bags and instead use paper envelopes, which can be recycled? My son’s magazines come in paper envelopes, as children’s media outlets are very aware of their environmental impact. Time for WR to do the same please?

Editor – I fully appreciate your concern, Ally. We are always looking at ways to improve our service, including our commitment to the planet. Plastic wallets are recyclable at larger supermarkets and we have recently updated our packaging to include a message which informs readers of this. Unfortunately, paper envelopes have a much higher unit cost for us from our supplier and therefore we currently only use these for subscribers who have had problems with delivery in the past. Unfortunately, we cannot commit to a full change to brown envelope delivery for our large subscriber database at this time. However, we are doing what we can and have added you to our list of subscribers to receive a copy in a brown envelope.
