Writers may not need a notebook, but they definitely need a way of remembering their ideas, says Jane Wenham Jones

I have just watched a video of Stephen King – one of my favourite authors – giving writing tips, and I was surprised to hear him say that a writer’s notebook is ‘the best way in the world to immortalise bad ideas. He seemed to be suggesting that if an idea is good, you will remember it without writing it down. Maybe it is my age, but this is not my experience!
