The 2016/17 Observer/Anthony Burgess Prize for Arts Journalism is open for entries.
The prize is in its fourth year, and this year the prize fund has been increased to £4,000. The winner will receive £3,000 and their prize essay will be published in the Observer. They will also be offered a one-to-one mentorship with senior editors at the Observer. Two runners up will each get £500. Winners and runners up will be commissioned to produce new writing about the arts for the Free Word Centre, who will also award a grant for European travel to undertake research.
To enter, send original, previously unpublished arts writing – a review of a book, film, concert, ballet, stage play, exhibition or TV show – up to 1,500 words. Judges are particularly keen to read work by writers who have not been published by the mainstream media.
