We’re all striving for a cleaner world and a better, safer environment. Each month in our Eco Living pages we round-up breaking environmental news, cover the pressing issues affecting our planet, and focus in on the everyday products we need to re-think.
We all know that recycling is important. It reduces the strain on natural resources, helps to protect our environment and saves energy. Unfortunately, England’s recycling rate is only 44.9 per cent, with plans to increase this to 50 per cent by 2020 (gov.uk), meaning that more than half of our waste can only go to one place: landfill. It’s been estimated that in seven weeks, the average person in the UK throws away their body weight in waste (cbenvironmental.co.uk), which is left to decompose in the Earth — often taking hundreds of years.
