HOW OUR SURVEY WAS CONDUCTED
The 2023 What Car? Reliability Survey was based on the insights of 21,732 car owners. We crunched the data they provided to create reliability ratings for 178 models from 32 brands.
What Car? research found that more than a third of UK drivers say they are holding on to their car for longer than they originally intended, as a result of the increased cost of living. So, we asked owners to tell us about the dependability of their cars over the past two years, rather than one.
Vehicle faults reported were split into 14 categories, so we could identify the most common issues. We also asked owners to tell us how long their car took to be repaired and how much it cost, and this data was used to create the ratings.
The Reliability Award brand ratings are for cars aged up to five years old.
