‘The purpose of the awards is to help people buy the right car’
A lot has changed since I was involved in my first What Car? Car of the Year Awards, more years ago than I care to remember.
Back then, remote working meant a week-long comparison test in Wales; the cover of the magazine was still shot on film because digital cameras didn’t have the necessary resolution; and our reviews team shared a single laptop, with the person assigned to the most important launch getting to take it. However, what hasn’t changed is the fundamental purpose of the awards: to help people buy the right car for their needs. And that’s why we’ve spent the past 12 months putting every new and updated model through the most comprehensive range of tests in the motoring journalism business.
