Yips
A cruel affliction that can come out of nowhere and render a sportsperson useless at a skill they’ve spent their lives performing. Darts, snooker, golf and gymnastics all have their own particular versions of the dreaded yips, and cricketers are as prone as any to an attack. They create a sort of psychological blockage that causes a bowler to forget the basic elements of their action, resulting in them losing their radar or, in the most serious cases, preventing them even releasing the ball from their hand. What starts off as a sniggersome episode soon becomes an unrelenting and unbearable time loop for player and spectators alike. The yips are far from funny.
