On shoes are beautiful and, in my experience, on the stiffer and smaller side of running shoes. The Cloudmonsters, though, defy all expectations. This is On’s entry into the maximalist market, with huge softy-wofty cushioning and a bouncy rebound. When I popped them on, this is honestly what I said: “They look nice, but I’m not sure how they’re going to f… Oh. My. God. Look at me bounce!” [cue me pretending to walk on the moon]. These are the first shoes I’ve tried on in about a year that I’ve felt able to take on aconsiderable run straightaway. They’re super comfortable, and that bouncy energy return –a mix of CloudTec midsole and On’s Speedboard to boing you forward – is nothing short of awesome. These are proper endurance training shoes, absolutely gagging for decent weekend mileage, and spot on for races too. Top marks, On, extremely impressive.
