Mental preparation
The main thing to remember when you go into race day is that you’ve done all of the work already and these last 26.2 miles are your glorious victory lap. There are some strategies you can use on race day to stop your mind from playing tricks on you.Distraction techniques are really useful and simple to remember when you group them into the four M’s; Maths, Mind Games, Music and Mantras.
• Maths. Can you honestly say you’ve been on a long run and managed to not do any maths? How many miles are there left? How many minutes of running is that? There’s something about clocking up the miles that lends itself to counting.
