Q & A

I’VE RECENTLY INCREASED MY TRAINING BUT I’M STARTING TO FEEL EXHAUSTED, EVEN ON REST DAYS. I HAVE COELIAC DISEASE, WHICH CAN RESTRICT MY DIET, BUT I EAT WELL. ANY ADVICE?

Anyone can feel tired when they crank up the intensity or duration of training. And eating more calories is probably not the answer. I would try three things. Firstly, look at the quality and timing of what you’re eating. Introduce high-quality, nutrientdense snacks like nuts, eggs and chopped vegetables in between meals. Secondly, go to bed half an hour earlier. A little extra sleep may help your body recover. Thirdly, what else is going on in your life? Sometimes what’s draining us isn’t the miles we’re covering but everything else we’re trying to do at the same time. Easing some of the non-running pressures may be key to better energy levels.
