Your food questions answered
We sole ve a few classic conundrums to help you achieve your goals
1 Why is what we eat important?
You wouldn’t fill your car with pond water and expect it to function well, and the same applies to our bodies. What you put into your body is what it runs on, so in order to keep it running at its best and to avoid illness, it’s vital that we fuel it with a balanced diet. This means ensuring it has the right amount of everything it needs to function properly, and avoiding too much of the things that stop it from functioning well. If we do this, our bodies are likely to be healthier, and in turn we’ll be better able to enjoy not only running but all parts of our lives.
2 ShouldI eat differently according to my age?
Not really. What a balanced diet looks like is the same in make-up from the age of about one until we die, it’s just the amounts that change. Protein intake gets more important as we age in order to prevent age-related bone loss, and you may find as you get older you have less of an appetite and therefore, to get everything you need onboard, you may prefer to have more small meals throughout the day. If you are breastfeeding or pregnant, there are certain nutritional changes that should be made, but otherwise what our bodies need is the same throughout our lives.
