Everything was perfect. I’d made it through 12 weeks of training for a half marathon, ticking off almost every single session. I’d managed to avoid injuries. My toddler had allowed me a full night’s sleep the night before and hadn’t passed on any germs from soft play. Even my period, which usually syncs wiThmy calendar to arrive on race morning, had decided to give me another day’s grace. Everything was perfect. Until it wasn’t. Aft er 30 minutes stood huddled in the rain at the start, the race was called off. I was so cold and wet that, by the time the delay turned into a cancellation, I was mostly relieved I could go home.
