When and where did your journey as an author begin? Becoming an author followed rather the same process as becoming a mother. It was not something I’d actually planned. In 1988 I was a soldier’s wife. My neighbour, the editor of an army wives magazine, asked me to write a short, humorous column. It became a regular feature, which in turn led to a tongue-in-cheek book about being an army wife. Back then, military wives weren’t supposed to take the mick out of the forces, so it attracted publicity, then sales, and then an inquiry from an agent about writing a novel. She didn’t end up representing me, but this inspired me to try my hand, which led to my first three-book deal, which were all books with soldiers for heroes.
