Green-themed children’s stories are wanted for the latest of University of Southampton’s free-entry eco-themed creative writing prizes. Entries should show what a sustainable society might look like. There are £200 prizes in two categories: for children aged 2-6 (up to 1,000 words) and young readers (2,500 words). Entry is free. The closing date is 14 September.

Chalk Circle Short Story Competition 2020 is the inaugural competition from the Sussex-based writers’ group, for stories of any kind or genre written in lockdown, up to 2,000 words. Prizes are £200, £100 and £50, and winners will be published online or in an anthology. The entry fee is £6 per story. The closing date is 31 August.
