RESEARCH TIPS
EXPERTS
Tarja Moles looks at the best ways to get insights on your research topic from an expert
In today’s world, finding information is generally quite easy due the vast amount of content available online. However, you may come across subjects or specific details that are challenging to research. In such situations, it may be advantageous to explore whether expert knowledge might be the way forward.
When we talk about ‘experts’, this often conjures images of highly-educated individuals – but this doesn’t necessarily have to be the case. An expert can be anyone with knowledge, skills or experience in a particular area. In a sense, we could all be said to be experts, at the very least in our own lives.
WHY CONSULT EXPERTS?
There are several reasons to seek out expert knowledge. For instance, the information you need may be so recent that it hasn’t been published yet. Or the topic may be so obscure that few people are familiar with it. Biographical information, personal experiences and family history often benefit from expert insights, and tapping into the knowledge that resides in people’s heads – whether in the form of memories or their way of thinking – is likely to be invaluable.
