Storytelling is an ancient art but it wasn’t until the 1920s that the world saw the beginnings of an exciting new journey through storytelling via the media of film with sound. Some well-known and loved novels have found themselves adapted for the silver screen. It’s storytelling in a very visual way. We’ve all read books that have been adapted in such a way, only to be disappointed when the characters don’t look the same as we had pictured in our heads from the character descriptions in the original books. We can still learn a lot about great storytelling from watching films and thinking about what makes them work and how we can apply a bit of that movie magic to our own writing.
