It’s fair to say that the job description for a writer (as far as such a thing exists) has changed an awful lot of late. Some would argue this is for the better – making the life of a writer more exciting and varied, while others dislike the many distractions from their creative work. What is without doubt is that the act of writing is no longer the sole task of a writer – in fact many would say it is half the task at best. Writing is a business, and publishing is a business from top to bottom, be it the major presses, indie publishing or selfpublishing. And, as in any business, the more you bring to the table, the more likely you are to get ahead.
