The Ruth Rendell Award is a new prize from the National Literacy Trust. It will be given to the author or writer who has done most to raise literacy levels in the UK, either through their writing or though their advocacy and championing of literacy causes.
Ruth Rendell, who died last year aged 85, was a long-time supporter of the National Literacy Trust and the award was launched on 17 February, which would have been her birthday.
