FLEXIBLE SPACESUITS
The new BioSuit would be tailor-made for each individual astronaut, making it a perfect fit
Contemporary spacesuits are not for the fashion-conscious. Bulky, heavy and inflexible, they nonetheless provide a vital role in keeping astronauts safe from thepunishing forces experienced in space and on the Moon. Fortunately, a team has been working towards creating a spacesuit that will provide a better range of flexibility and comfort for future generations. Current spacesuits have 14 layers, all of which provide roles such as cooling the astronaut and insulating them, as well as avoiding tears and shaping. All of this adds up to make a suit weigh over 100 kilograms – although this doesn’t affect astronauts so much when in space due to the lack of gravity.
