The Rivière binding of an 1894, Kelmscott edition of William Morris’ The Story of the Glittering Plain... sold for £25,000 by Bonhams.
A lot offering 28 ink illustrations by Edward Ardizzone for The Tunnel of Hugsy Goode of 1972, one of several works by the American writer Eleanor Estes that he illustrated, realised £6500.
Presentation copies and private press books were a key feature of a Bonhams (27.5/25/20/14.5% buyer’s premium) sale of June 24, but it was topped at £38,000 by a 1713, second edition of his Principia Mathematica that Isaac Newton gave to John Wickins.
