THE athletics year is far from over, with some big events on the road and country yet to come. Yet there is already speculation over who will win the athletes of 2016 accolades and in Olympic year such an honour carries extra kudos.
Our latest cover star, Callum Hawkins, has run himself into contention with his brilliant performances over the marathon and half-marathon.
But as much as his distance-running heroics will appeal to the endurance fraternity, he will find it hard to dislodge double Olympic champion Mo Farah when it comes to British male athlete of 2016.
Indeed, the battle for a mere podium place will be tough with Tom Bosworth, Greg Rutherford, Adam Gemili, Robbie Grabarz and Martyn Rooney each having a strong case.
