KERRON CLEMENT rediscovered the ability that brought him world titles in 2007 and 2009. The 30-year-old American clocked 47.73 – his fastest time for nine years – to beat Kenya’s Boniface Tumuti and Turkey’s European champion Yasmani Copello.
In fourth with 47.99 was Irish revelation Thomas Barr as all of the top quartet broke 48 seconds.
The race was one of the morning finals in Rio but it did not go well for Javier Culson of Puerto Rico as the 2012 Olympic bronze medallist false-started and walked away from the arena in tears.
