THIS EVENT produced one of the more modest winning performances in Rio and one of the most unexpected results.
Only third in the Europeans, 21-year-old Croatian Sara Kolak was ranked just 15th among competitors prior to the Games and was throwing in her first global senior final.
She revealed in qualifying that she would be a contender when she improved her PB to a Croatian record 64.30m to rank third over the two pools.
However, Kolak, who won bronze at the European Champs this summer, did not start the final impressively.
A 60.89m opening throw placed her fifth. She went out to 62.95m in the second round but others improved too and she stayed fifth.
