I have no older cousins, brothers or sisters, and, as a result, in my adult life I’ve been to a grand total of two weddings. Which is a shame really because I love weddings — Don’t Tell the Bride used to be a mainstay of my television viewing, and I actually went to the National Wedding Show in Manchester last year (for work, honest!) While the second wedding I went to was an eye opener — a former university housemate married a Cuban, and both are zouk dance instructors which led to an unorthodox opening dance — it was the first one that had the biggest impact on my coming out process. And it wasn’t even a real wedding!
