My biggest fear used to be that Fred West would rise from the dead and abduct me as I walked home along a dimly lit country lane (I grew up in a village so it wasn’t totally improbable. Apart from the rising from the dead bit).
Then it was that I’d trip down a manhole and be consumed by a fatberg. But at the moment, the idea that scares me most is the likelihood that someone I know is taking screen grabs of my Instagram posts and crucifying them in a some Whatsapp group chat.
Now, I’m no genius — just ask my secret internet enemy, who is probably distributing grabs of my Facebook statuses annotated with “LOLOLOLOLOSER” as we speak. But even I realise that my paranoia is the result of a guilty conscience. Like the philandering man who’s convinced that his boyfriend will cheat on him, my own indiscretions leave me feeling vulnerable.
