Marc Almond
HE WAS ONE HALF OF SOFT CELL IN THE EIGHTIES, HE WON AN ATTITUDE ICON AWARD THREE YEARS AGO AND WAS A POSTER BOY FOR THE ANTI-ESTABLISHMENT. BUT HE’S NOT DONE YET...
THERE ARE MAVERICKS and then there’s Marc Almond. Coming to fame as Soft Cell’s eye-linered singer, he intoned the trials and tribulations of tainted love, bedsits and sex dwarfs across singles and albums that celebrated sexual freedom and Soho seediness. Formed when Marc met Dave Ball at Leeds Polytechnic, the duo — whose debut album was Non-Stop Erotic Cabaret — enjoyed three years of chart hits, an amicable split in 1984, then a reunion in 2001.
