It’s rare for an urban artist to address same-sex attraction, so hats off to Frank Ocean.

In an open letter, originally meant for inclusion on his Channel Orange album but subsequently published on Tumblr, he wrote about his first true (and unrequited) love — for another man, when he was 19.

“I feel like a free man,” he said of the announcement, to support from Beyoncé and Jay Z and praise from record producer and entrepreneur Russell Simmons.
