I’ve been incredibly lucky to have an accepting family so coming out to them was easy. My younger brother is also gay and he came out to my parents about four years before me, so everything went smoothly at home.

However, I really struggled at school. I knew from a young age that I was gay but the environment — the bullying of LGBT+ students and no role models — made me repress my identity. I was paranoid that any signs of campness would paint a target on my back.
