BFI FLARE PRESENTS
Words: Guy Lodge
ACT UP: Amour and Aids activism in 1980s Paris in120 Beats Per Minute
In times like these, some of us don’t crave new flicks so much as the comfort of old favourites — in which case, head to streaming service BFI Player for highlights from Flare, the BFI’s annual LGBTIQ+ film festival. There, you can revisit such 21stcentury queer classics as God’s Own Country, Carol and 120 Beats Per Minute, or stumble upon an undiscovered one. From last year, Argentine film Men of Hard Skin is a moving, gay coming-of-age story that also probes into ecclesiastical abuse, while the most recent Boys On Film omnibus includes The Colour of His Hair, starring Josh O’Connor.
