Torn, punched with holes, creased, wrinkled and showing loss at the folds, an ‘Organizational Clothing and Equipment Record’ used at Fort Hood, Texas, in 1958 would not at first sight seem an attractive proposition.
But one of the names it bears, mis-spelled by an unidentified army officer, is that of one ‘Presley, Alvis…’.
The signature of that young GI appears no fewer that seven times, and that prompted a bid of £2800 in an Autographs & Memorabilia sale held on March 23 by Dreweatts & Bloomsbury (24/18/12% buyer’s premium).
