The challenge of delivering a one-stop health service for Arran’s ageing population is to be met head on with a series of radical changes to health and social care on the island.
The most recent figures available and obtained by the Banner – from 2015-16 – show that Arran has a permanent resident popular of 4,562. Of that number 779 are over 65, 719 over 75 and 190 over 85, a total of 1,679 – a worrying 37 per cent, up three per cent from the last Census in 2011.
