Pentecost is the seventh Sunday after Easter, the time when the Holy Spirit came upon special friends – the disciples who followed and believed in Jesus. We read that the gift of the Holy Spirit revealed all truth to them and empowered them to preach the Gospel, writes Helen Kerr.
On this day each year on Arran we celebrate this with an open-air service at the Preaching Cave along Kilpatrick shore. Why there? You may ask.
It is part of our heritage that more than 200 years ago, the congregation of Kilmory, including Shiskine, walked out of the church, rebelling against the patronage of the Duke of Hamilton, who had forced a minister on the congregation whom they were convinced would not be true to their beliefs.
