Since 1931, Scotland’s Garden Scheme has been raising money for charities by opening gardens of horticultural interest throughout Scotland. Many of the gardens are privately owned and therefore not usually open to the public.
This year, for the 35th year, Dougarie Lodge gardens will be open on Tuesday July 3 between 2pm and 5pm. There will be teas in the 19th-century boathouse and stalls.
Sixty per cent of the funds raised at the garden openings goes to charities of the garden owner’s choice, which will be Pirnmill Village Association, whilst 40 per cent is shared between Maggie’s Cancer Care Centres, the Queen’s Nursing Institute and the National Trust for Scotland gardens fund and Perennial.
