THE EUROPEAN UNION is considering aban on the sale of all new petrol and diesel cars – including plug-in hybrids – from 2035 as partofits widereaching plan to drastically cut greenhouse gas emissions.
Anew report from the European Commission (the EU’s executive branch) has proposed a55%cut in vehicular CO 2 emissions from current levels by 2030, rising to 100%by2035, which would effectively make it impossible to sell non-electric vehicles in the EU’s 27 member states.
