Prior to the rise of pub rock in the late 70s, internationally-successful Antipodean pop acts were something of a rarity. Certainly, The Seekers were one such success story, while emigrants such as Olivia Newton-John and the Bee Gees, who had arrived from the UK via the so-called ‘Ten Pound Pom’ scheme, also left their cultural mark. The musical landscape altered significantly in the wake of punk, while MTV’s launch provided a platform for a new generation of global stars.
