Dancing Times  |  August 2012
If, like me, you are completely fed up with the terrible weather we have been enduring in the UK this summer, at least you can curl up somewhere warm and dry and pass the time by reading this month’s Dancingtimes! As ever, we endeavour to bring to your attention the very best in dance, and in this issue Graham Watts goes to see Viacheslav Samodurov’s new full-length ballet in Ekaterinburg, Jeannette Andersen celebrates Gauthier Dance’s fifth birthday in Stuttgart, New York-based Meryl Cates discovers the treasures that can be found in The George Balanchine Foundation Interpreters Archive of video recordings, and Barbara Newman draws some conclusions from the recent epic London season by Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch. In Dance Education we embark on reporting the end-ofyear shows by our leading vocational dance schools, and in Dance Scene we review performances in the UK and abroad. Finally, we would like to salute three departing directors of UK ballet companies who step down this summer – Dame Monica Mason, Wayne Eagling and Ashley Page – all of whom, in their own distinct and very different ways, have made huge contributions to the recent success of British ballet.
