“I was aiming for that feel of The Dæmons [1971], with a very British setting,” writer George Mann explains. “It’s nostalgia for a 1970s that probably never was it’s the ‘English village’ thing that programmes like Midsomer Murders tap into! That’s where the rose garden idea came from – I had the idea of terror in Middle England, and a rose garden being the thing that could end the world!”
