The action plays out at 120 glorious frames per second on our Series X, and is perhaps the smoothest-feeling next-gen games we’ve played. We could take or leave the soundtrack, which is a sort of endless didgeridooing
The fight for control can be long, often brutal. It takes not just strength and passion, but a cold kind of cunning to succeed – lessons we learn well during our time with The Falconeer. Entirely the work of one developer, Tomas Sala, this dogfighting (birdfighting?) adventure sees you play as various warbird riders, setting out across the ocean to serve the practical and political needs of your home island. But while there are giddy heights to be savoured, just as often things come crashing down into the waters below, as you wrestle for command over a game that can sometimes feel like it’s lost the run of itself, too.
