PLaydate
The little console with the crank remains one of the most exciting hardware developments in recent times – and we’re not just saying that because it was revealed via this very tome. Rather, it’s the fact that it offers something out of the ordinary: Panic is releasing a bespoke handheld at a time when even Nintendo is out of the portableonly market. Indeed, Playdate promises to offer something akin to the creatively fertile period of those early days of the DS, that little wind-up handle on the right side of the console opening up new forms of interaction in the same way as the combination of stylus and touchscreen did in the mid-noughties.
