A few days ago, while changing with Becky Mercer (see the cover) we got to comparing notes on how helpful and supportive our husbands are. Becky describes in her cover story just a few of the above and beyond contributions made by her husband as she pursues her hobby of breeding and exhibiting Silkies and White Crested Black Polish bantams. We had a lot in common, spouses who build coops for us, drive us to shows, maintain vehicles, pack birds back and forth to their cages, etc. And, all of thiswithoutreallysharingasmuchofthepas- sion for the birds that we have. Sure they are interested in our hobby, but not to the extent that we are but they still work hard to support us in everything that we do. Fall is peak show season for most of us. It is a great time to acknowledge the support from spouses, friends, and even your children that are often seen in the background. If you are Juniors and 4-H exhibitors, be sure to thank your parents for their hard work and investments in time and money so that you can continue to show poultry and pursue excellence in your chosen passion.
