6 WINTER LF-1 ZAUKONIG
For those who prefer to model the unusual and
obscure aviation creations, try this 3/10th scale
94” span radio controlled scale model designed by
Jeremy Collins. It’s a challenge in many respects,
not least in programming and mixing the control
surfaces and flappery for ultra low speed flighty –
which was what the full size was all about!
16 ZAUNKONIG TYPE HISTORY
German aeronautical engineers were among the first
to systematically investigate low-speed flight. This
was one of the experimental types used

VERVILLE-SPERRY M1 MESSENGER
A 30” span, 1/8th scale model for R/C electric
power designed by Peter Rake, with the prototype
built and described by Steve Perry
42 TYPE HISTORY: SPERRY
M1 MESSENGER
Conceived as an ‘aerial motorcycle’ for military
airborne despatch riders, this little aircraft, built
in small numbers nonetheless blazed its own
trail in aeronautical research and performed the
world’s first fixed wing aircraft-to-airship hookup
and release
46 SCALE SOARING
Chris Williams, flies a Kite (Slingsby that is!) and
also provides some practical little construction
techniques that apply as much to any type a
flying scale model as with scale gliders
