VINCENT VAN GOGH
The great Post-Impressionist was born in the Netherlands, but it was France where his art came to life. In Paris, he befriended artists and developed his iconic style through numerous works. But he suffered severely from depression and mental illness. He moved to the southern French town of Arles in 1888 in the hopes of recovering and establishing an artistic colony – this never succeeded, but these years were extremely prolific for van Gogh. Tey were also among his last, as he died in 1890 penniless and unknown.
