Don’t rule out practising walk pirouettes and shoulder-in on a hack or in your jumping warm-up, too. They’ll have your horse supple and responsive, which will make a big difference to his way of going in all spheres.
Don’t push for too much when you introduce shoulder-in, a few correct steps is a great start, and little and often is the best way to ensure you continue to get it right going forward.
If things aren’t going how you’d like, give yourselves a break and practise something you know your horse can do well, then come back to the trickier exercise afterwards – little and often will provide the results you’re looking for.
