Hello Allan.
Firstly, please accept my sincere apologies for not writing recently. You may recall from the odd (very odd, some might say) e-mail in previous years that I’ve been an avid reader of Infinity since the very first issue. You can rest assured that there is no danger whatsoever of my subscription being cancelled any time soon.
I am, first and foremost, a fantasy/sci-fi fan, but enjoy the wide variety of subjects featured in the magazine. I completely understand why you had to diversify with regard to subject matter, but think that the balance is absolutely right. The tone is spot on, and the humour hits all the right spots for those of us who grew up in the late 1960s and early 70s.
I was particularly inspired, however, to resume my presence at the keyboard as a result of the interview with Ike Eisenmann, which I enjoyed enormously. The Fantastic Journey was one of my favourite shows as a child (I would have been 12 years old when it first aired). I found the concept intriguing, and share Ike’s disappointment of the changes mandated by the studio (why do they always have to spoil things?). It was great to hear that all the cast members were thoroughly decent people. I’ve always been a huge fan of the late Roddy McDowall and it was reassuring to learn that he’d been so helpful and kind to others. I have to admit though, sorry Roddy, that I was even more of a fan of the beautiful Katie Saylor. I read some time ago that (rather ironically, given the show’s premise) she had mysteriously disappeared and was presumed to have died, but that nobody knows for sure. Perhaps Steve Eramo could follow up on that for us?
Anyway, I’ve prattled on for long enough so will leave you in peace. All that remains is for me, as is traditional, to beg you for a feature (preferably a whole issue) on the wonderful Gabrielle Drake. I know, some readers are never happy, are there? All the very best, Allan. Happy New Year to you and all the team.
