Knitting  |  June 10
At approximately the same time each month, the Knitting offi ce
is visited by more than its fair share of curious colleagues. As
much as I would like to tell you that it’s all down to my sparkling
character, quick wit and repartee, it is however the day in
which all the samples arrive for the gallery shoot. As they are admired and
studied, the most frequent comment is always along the lines of ‘I love this,
but I could never wear it with my legs/arms...’ or whatever these women
feel is their own personal trouble spot. What is interesting is that often two
people who, to my eye, have similar shapes will have very different ideas of
what would suit them. This is what this month’s theme is all about – getting
real women to create (with the help of designer Sian Brown) knits which
fl atter their particular shape. Nobody knows your body quite like you do and
seldom do we have the opportunity to accommodate it in such a personal
way as with this group of women. Whatever their shapes, their desires were
the same; to simply look their best. It really isn’t about perfection, it’s about
working with what you have and as I take a fi nal look through these pages,
I feel that is exactly what they have done.
