The Society of Friends of Glasgow Cathedral has made its annual appeal for volunteer guides to the historic building.
The Cathedral, which is over 800 years old, receives nearly a quarter of a million visitors every year. Since the 1980s, the Society of Friends has provided a team of guides to welcome and inform visitors, conduct guided tours and serve on the bookstall.
Ailene Hunter, who is convener of the Volunteer Guides, says: “Even on a rather grey January morning, we had people of at least 15 different nationalities, from North and South America and Australasia as well as European countries from Spain to Hungary. We did have a few Scots too – even one Glaswegian (who was showing round Australian relatives!)”
