I was struck by Dr Fraser’s blunt appraisal that ‘Scots do not believe the Church’s claims regarding God, Christ, and his plans to transform the world. For that reason, they do not join us for worship or key life events, preferring instead to make sense of the world in their own way.’ This is sad but true; and it must be our starting point for mission.
While we often focus our attention on the decline in church numbers, the bigger question is how we can reach 21st century Scotland with the wonderful gospel of God’s grace in our Saviour Jesus Christ? What are the challenges and how can they be overcome? What is God calling the Church to do and to be; and what strategies does the Holy Spirit want His people to follow?
