Devices running Android 7.1 or earlier, may find the internet getting smaller in 2021. Let’s Encrypt, one of the world’s biggest certificate authorities, with around 30 per cent of all web domains using its certificates, is ending its partnership with IdenTrust on 1 September, 2021.
Along with the company’s own ISRG Root X1 root certificate, Let’s Encrypt’s certificates were also cross-signed with the DST Root X3 root from IdenTrust. This means from that date, browsers and operating systems without the ISRG Root X1 certificate won’t work with websites and services using the certificate.
