Surrey is taking to the UK’s 2017 summer stage, thanks to the relocation of the long-standing Grange Park Opera company to a country estate near Guildford. The highlight is the brand-new Theatre in the Woods, a purpose-built, tree-shrouded opera house inspired by Milan’s La Scala, hidden behind the 15th-century manor house of West Horsley Place. The auditorium makes its debut on 8 June with an opening-night performance of Tosca, starring Maltese tenor Joseph Calleja. The season, which runs until 15 July, also includes Wagner’s Die Walküre and Janáček’s Jenůfa.
