BEN BENTLEY
Ihadn’t actually heard Slipknot’s debut album until we toured with them in 2000. But that means I got to hear all of those songs in their purest, most raw form, “Ihadn’t during a time in their career where Slipknot were their most psychotic. The shows were completely unhinged - crowds were seething. It would be so hot in there that fire alarms would be pulled. The fans were so rabid, and the band would eat that up. It was always on the brink of being too far, too out of control. It was incredible.
“Touring with them was a wild experience. I remember they had this dead, rotting crow they’d keep in a jar. Every night, they would take turns huffing it before they went onstage. They’d literally smell the crow until they were puking through their masks, then go onstage smeared with vomit. But that was the vibe! They were invested in the performance, wanted to feel disgusting… And no. I never had a sniff of that crow. But, when they weren’t puking or having Taser fights with each other, they were always so friendly. Their chaotic sound and mentality was inspiring for us, and the band were so supportive.”
